Washington, DC

Washington, DC Area
The annual LWP event for the folks in the DC area took on a different look this year. Due to some last minute scheduling conflicts the normal 125 mile run from Hancock, MD to Fletcher’s Cove in Washington was shortened to a 60 mile run. The participants were about the same as in prior years with Theresa, Tom, Pete, and John returning for their fourth year, Katie her second and Andy joining the group for the first time. Due to the reduced number of miles the run started about 8:30 AM in Harper’s Ferry, MD and ended at Fletcher’s Cove at 5:01 PM (one minute after the anticipated arrival time J). We also had to forgo the always anticipated picnic at the end of the run but we made up for it by eating a variety of junk food once everyone finished.
The weather this year was spectacular with temperatures in the 50s in the morning but warming up to about 70 by the time we finished. For the majority of the day there was not a cloud in the sky.
Although the shorter run was much easier on the legs of the participants, the consensus of the group was that next year we will return to the original 125 mile format – one just can’t get enough of a good thing!
We hope all of the LWP sites throughout the country had as good of a time as we did and hopefully we raised a considerable amount of money for the PV Volunteers! See you this summer in West Virginia!
